Should I put this prologue in my manuscript?
I have finished the draft of my first manuscript, and I’m debating on whether to add a prologue.
It’s young adult–science fiction, and I wanted to tie it into Roman mythology because it fit. I used the tale of Pandora’s box and wrote it in a colorful two-page prologue. My point of it was that “Hope” was the last to come out of the box and that my main characters are this “Hope” although I never go out and say that.
My story is written in first person, and this part is written in third person with no dialogue. Should I use it or just start my story?
My first chapter is a flashback that has made dozens of jaws drop. It’s definitely an attention getter.
What do you think?
I usually dont reply to people who say they are good writers or have created a masterpiece. If you have done it, you shouldn’t be asking questions like this.
But seriously, what you add to a manuscript is your choice. No one can tell you. If you feel an prologue is important for the better understanding of your story, by all means, put it in.
